Religious Education
"Be concerned in a spiritual way for education. Where young minds and hearts are shaped in love for the Lord and his Church, in the good, the true and the beautiful.”
Pope Francis
Religious Education is central to the life of our school. It promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of the pupils and enables them to become aware of God’s presence in their lives, helping them to foster a caring, Christian attitude towards others. R.E. also enables pupils to gain knowledge and understanding of the major world faiths, while recognising the many similarities and differences which link these faiths together.
The Curriculum
In Years 3 and 4 , we follow the ‘Come and See’ programme. The aim of the Come and See programme is to explore the religious dimension of questions about life, dignity and purpose within the Catholic tradition. Links are made with the teaching of the Church, pupils’ own experiences and universal experience. The children will explore the beliefs, values and way of life of the Catholic tradition and, where appropriate other faith traditions.
The new Religious Education Directory (RED) for Catholic Schools in England and Wales is now available. EYFS, Year 1, Year 2, Year 5 and Year 6 are now teaching under these new objectives.
The new curriculum will be implemented completely by September 2025.
The school is fully compliant with the curriculum requirements laid down by the Bishops’ Conference and 10% of our Curriculum is dedicated to RE.
